National Apprenticeship Week 2026 (9-15 February) is a celebration of opportunity, growth, and the real stories behind career journeys shaped through apprenticeships.
At NTG Group, we’re proud to support and develop emerging talent across our business – with seven apprentices currently growing their careers with us – so this is a week we truly value.
One of those success stories is Maisha Rahman, now Group Accounts Assistant, who recently completed her apprenticeship after joining us in September 2021. Working across both NTG and ABS Precision, Maisha has become a key member of our team. In this interview, she shares her experience and the skills she’s developed.
Please provide a summary of your role and your apprenticeship…
I am delighted to share that I have recently completed my apprenticeship at Kaplan Financial and have now reached the L7 Accountancy or Taxation Professional Apprenticeship Standard (CGMA).
As Group Accounts Assistant for NTG Group my role includes a variety of responsibilities. This includes overseeing the daybooks, credit control, supporting payroll, posting journals, analysing stock reports and making adjustments when required, as well as general HR administrative tasks.
What do you like about your job at NTG Group?
The variety of work and the opportunity to be involved in different areas of the business – not just one part of finance – has been a real highlight. It’s given me a broader understanding of how different departments work together.
I also really appreciate the support from my colleagues, who are always quick to help when needed. Their experience has been invaluable in helping me learn and grow.
What skills have you gained as part of your apprenticeship?
From starting this apprenticeship, I have gained a strong understanding of financial processes and controls.
Another skill I’ve improved on is my communication. The constant interactions with other departments and organisations has required me to adapt my approach to suit the situation. This has helped me to become more confident in my professional and personal life.
I’ve also had to work on my time management and organisational skills when balancing study with my work responsibilities.
What advice would you give to someone starting an apprenticeship?
Always ask questions, although you might be hesitant to do so, it shows a willingness to learn. Also learn how to deal with feedback and take it as a development opportunity to perfect your skills.
An apprenticeship may be difficult, but the practical experience gained alongside the professional qualification will put you in a better position professionally without the debt, it’s a no-brainer.
What are your career goals?
Now that I’m CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants) qualified, my goal is to continue building my career in finance, developing deeper expertise in management accounting and financial analysis. I’m keen to take on more responsibility over time such as managing my own team, contributing to decision-making through financial insight, and progressing into a role where I can support business strategy as well as financial operations.
